Congratulations to LRW member Katie McGarry, whose manuscript, Redefining Normal was selected as a finalist from more than 1,100 entries in the 2010 Pacific Northwest Writers Association Literary Contest.

Congratulations to LRW member Joan Kayse, whose Barbarian Soul, set in the Roman Empire, won Second Place in the Oklahoma Romance Writer's "Finally A Bride" contest.

Congratulations to LRW member Joan Kayse, whose Roman historical, The Barbarian’s Soul was recently named a Finalist in Oklahoma Romance Writer's "Finally A Bride" contest. Entrants in this contest must have finaled in another contest in order to be eligible.

The Bride (First Place Winner) in each category will receive a lovely engraved knife and cake server, suitable for cutting the cake in celebration of "the call." (For any non-writers, that's The Call in which you receive an offer of publication!) In addition, any book that is published as a result of this contest will receive a free entry into the National Readers' Choice Award the first year of eligibility. The cake server will be presented to the winners at OKRWA's NRCA award ceremony at the RWA National Conference.

Congratulations to LRW member Ellie Kirkland, whose Courting Disaster recently placed Third in the Single Title Contemporary category of the Fourth Annual Dixie Kane Memorial Contest, sponsored by the Southern Louisiana (SOLA) Chapter of Romance Writers of America. According to the SOLA website: "The Dixie Kane Memorial Contest is a writing contest in honor of the late Linda Kay West, who wrote as Dixie Kane. A member of SOLA and RWA for many years, Linda served in numerous board positions. She shared her knowledge of writing, publishing, and law generously as a speaker at SOLA's meetings and conferences. SOLA created the Dixie Kane Memorial Contest to encourage aspiring writers to hone their craft and submit their work."

the Greater Detroit RWA's 2009 Between the Sheets Contest! Entries are limited to unpublished authors and are judged on both a ten-page love scene (sweet to erotic) and a one-page unjudged set-up explaining how the heroine and hero end up “between the sheets.”

Congratulations to LRW Treasurer Sandy Loyd, whose Shattered Dreams has been named a Finalist in the Single-Title Contemporary division of the 2009 Windy City RWA's Four Seasons Contest! Final round judges for this competition category will be Adam Wilson, Harlequin/MIRA editor and Melissa Jeglinski, agent with The Knight Agency.

Congratulations to LRW President Leslie Lynch, whose manuscript, Hijacked, was named a Finalist in the Single Title/Mainstream with Romantic Elements category of the "Happily Ever After Contest."

Congratulations to LRW President Leslie Lynch, whose Unholy Bonds was recently named a Finalist in the Greater Detroit Romance Writers of America's "Between the Sheets" contest for love scenes. The "Between the Sheets" contest is open annually to any yet-to-be published RWA member in good standing, who is not contracted in full-length fiction. Final judges include top-name representatives from some of the industry's leading publishers and literary agencies. Prizes include $100 for first place; $50 for second place and $25 for third place, and the top four entrants all receive commemorative certificates. Entries feature a ten-page love scene (sweet to erotic) and a one-page unjudged set-up. The set-up is a synopsis that explains how the heroine and hero end up “between the sheets.”

LRW President Leslie Lynch has finaled twice in this year's Linda Howard Award of Excellence contest, sponsored by the Southern Magic Chapter of RWA. This contest was conceived in honor of best-selling author Linda Howard to award excellence in unpublished romance fiction and their authors. The contest is judged by trained judges with PAN and PRO status. The winners of each category are awarded a metal bookmark engraved with the author's name and the entry's title. Winners will also be included in the RWR announcements. Leslie's manuscripts, Hijacked and Unholy Bonds, were named Finalists in the Romantic Suspense category.
